For sites using Drupal 10, the Department Web Framework allows departments to provide detailed lists of course offerings using information pulled from the Time Schedule and Canvas.
How to update courses
- Add courses in Time Schedule Construction. Even if the Time Schedule is not published yet, the information you enter will be available via Student Web Services for importing into the website.
- On the department website, log in and click Manage Courses.
- Select the appropriate options for the upcoming courses quarter and year. If needed, change the archive length. Click Save Configuration.
The course lists immediately appear on the site, and the course details are synchronized with the information from Time Schedule. For each course, the Canvas syllabus description appears automatically, if available.
Important notes:
- Update courses prior to each quarter: Once per quarter, edit the course settings to show the upcoming quarter. The courses listed as upcoming will not change until a Course Manager updates the settings, even if those courses are in the past.
- If a course is added or removed from Time Schedule, the change will automatically be reflected on the department website.
- To add or remove curriculum abbreviations, email us at asweb@uw.edu.
How to add Featured Courses
Some sites have a Featured Courses page or show a Featured Course on the homepage. If your site does not, and you would like to consider adding this feature, email us at asweb@uw.edu.
Note: Sites only display upcoming Featured Courses. If none have been created, that area of the site will not display a course. To avoid disappearing content, create new Featured Courses prior to the start of the upcoming quarter.
Featured Courses are a content type and are added in a similar manner to other types of content, such as News and Pages. To add a Featured Course, first ensure that the course has been added to the site using the steps above. Then:
- In the editor menu, click Add Content
- Select the Featured Course content type
- Enter the course details, attach a Promo Image, and then save it
The course will then automatically appear on the Featured Course page, the homepage, or both. Featured Courses continue to display for 2 weeks after the start of the quarter. After 2 weeks, the site will display the Featured Courses for the next quarter. If no new Featured Courses have been created, no content will be displayed in the Featured Course space.
