Call for Web Advisory Committee Members

Submitted by Heather Wozniak on

We are forming a small committee to provide feedback as the web framework project progresses. See the formal announcement below (or follow the "Read more" link).

September 20, 2011

Dear colleagues:

I write to announce that the College of Arts & Sciences is forming an advisory committee to offer feedback about features, tools, and design for the Humanities Web Framework.  I hope you will consider volunteering to serve on this committee or nominating colleagues in your department who may be willing to serve.  It will be an informal committee that will meet monthly for approximately six months.

As you know, the goal of the Humanities Web Framework project is to develop a system for building and hosting websites that will meet the needs of Humanities departments and centers.  This system will reduce the technical burden of maintaining a website and assist departments in complying with university standards for accessibility, graphic identity, and security.  It will also allow departments to offer features that users expect from a modern website and to adapt more easily to emerging trends.

The advisory committee will represent the perspectives of varying roles in relation to website use.  It will consist of six members: two faculty, two staff, and two graduate students.  I will serve as the chair.  Additional members may join us in a temporary or ex officio capacity as needed.

The advisory committee will meet once a month for 90 minutes, from October 2011 through March 2012.  In spring 2012 the framework should be in place along with a handful of departmental websites, and we will assess whether it would be beneficial for an advisory body to continue in some form.  Committee members will be charged with the following responsibilities:

  • Hear progress updates, view website demonstrations, and provide feedback about features, tools, and design at monthly meetings.
  • Examine example websites in advance of meetings.
  • Provide brief input over email if urgent planning issues arise between meetings.

Anyone interested in serving on the committee or nominating someone to serve should contact me at hwozniak@uw.edu or (206) 221-7651.  Thanks for your support of this project.

Sincerely,

Heather Wozniak, PhD
