Three more departments joining the framework
This spring work is underway on three more department websites: Linguistics; Law, Societies & Justice; and Gender, Women & Sexuality Studies. Look for their sites to debut this summer.
The Department Web Framework is a free service provided by the UW College of Arts & Sciences Marketing & Communications team. We design, build, and host websites for the College's departments, so they can focus on their content and communication strategies.
There are currently 33 departments using the framework service. It is available to academic departments in all four divisions: Arts, Humanities, Natural Sciences, and Social Sciences. If your department is interested in joining, contact Shane Fricks. What if I'm not eligible?
We've got lots of tutorials and background information in our documentation and help section.
For notices of system downtime, upgrades, new features, and workshops, join the asweb-users mailing list.
Not all units are eligible for the framework. Learn more about Arts & Sciences web services at the College's Marketing site.

Our next Department Web Framework users meeting will be Wednesday, April 30, from 10-11:00am in CMU 065.
Based on feedback after our combined meeting with the Humanities & Social Sciences Marketing Roundtable, we have decided to separate the meetings this quarter. Attendance was high and there is clearly a lot of interest in marketing and communications topics. You are welcome to attend whichever meetings have agenda items that apply to you, or send other representatives who would benefit from the information.
The UW Dance Program is the 11th unit to join our Department Web Framework. Visit their beautiful new site at http://dance.washington.edu
The School of Music now has a Department Web Framework site. This site includes enhanced image options (slideshows, gallery pop-ups) and audio/video options (YouTube/Vimeo pop-ups, embedded SoundCloud clips) that we developed for the arts sites. We also did extensive custom work to create rich landing pages for the Areas of Study (formerly Divisions) and Ensembles. With over 80 faculty and staff, 54 degree programs, and hundreds of events, this is our largest Department Web Framework site to-date.
The next Department Web Framework users meeting will be Tuesday, February 25, 1:00-2:00pm in CMU 202 (Simpson Center conference room).
This meeting will be combined with the new Humanities & Social Sciences Marketing Roundtable. We realize that the discussion topics and attendees at these two meetings may overlap, so we’re going to try combining them. The first part will focus on more general marketing issues and content strategy, and any web-framework specific announcements and discussion will happen in the later part.
This winter our team will be building new websites for the School of Drama and DXARTS: Center for Digital Arts and Experimental Media. Look for their new sites to debut in the spring.
Our next Department Web Framework users meeting will be Wednesday, October 30, from 10:00-11:00am in CMU 065. The presentation topics will be YouTube and Trumba, the new campus events calendar. There will also be general announcements and discussion. Anyone who is an editor on a Department Web Framework site is invited.
This fall our team will begin building sites for the Dance Program and the School of Music in the Department Web Framework. Keep an eye out for the new sites scheduled to launch in January 2014.
